Program Overview

Join us for our inaugural Diagnostic Imaging Specialty Internship and play an integral role in building a progressive private practice diagnostic imaging program dedicated to preparing interns for successful careers in veterinary diagnostic imaging and residency training.

Interns will receive structured mentorship and extensive hands-on experience in diagnostic ultrasound performance and interpretation, which will serve as a primary focus of the internship. Interns will also develop strong skills in radiographic interpretation and comprehensive clinical case management. As the internship progresses and competency develops, interns will receive exposure to and training in computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) interpretation. The program emphasizes the development of diagnostic accuracy, clinical reasoning, professional communication, and imaging workflow efficiency to prepare interns for successful careers in diagnostic imaging specialty practice or residency training.

Clinical Mentorship and Support Structure

·   Two DACVR board-certified radiologists based in Tacoma, providing direct daily mentorship

·   One residency-trained radiology-focused sonographer based in Tacoma

·   Two DACVR board-certified radiologists based in Seattle/Bellevue metropolitan area

·   Additional DACVR board-certified radiologists providing remote support

·   Access to a board-certified DACVIM (Cardiology) specialist for cardiology exposure

Clinical Training and Responsibilities

·   Perform abdominal, cervical, musculoskeletal, and focused ultrasound examinations with progressive autonomy

·   Perform ultrasound-guided procedures including fine needle aspiration and fluid sampling

·   Interpret radiographic and ultrasound studies and prepare diagnostic imaging reports for radiologist review

·   Provide communication of imaging findings and recommendations to pet owners and referral veterinarians

·   Receive exposure to CT and MRI interpretation later in the internship based on progression

·   Participate in imaging rounds, journal club, and structured educational sessions

·   Participate in clinical research if desired by the candidate

·   Help provide leadership and support to our client relationship and technical team

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $56,500 annual salary, based on hourly wages and a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week. As dictated by Wa law.

Candidate Requirements

·   DVM or equivalent veterinary degree

·   Completion of a rotating small animal internship prior to start date is required

·   Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Washington State

·   Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available

·   Documented strong interest in diagnostic imaging and thrives in environments in which automy is prioritized
